Abstract:
The Anderson papers consist of career papers, correspondence, subject files, writings, and other miscellaneous items related to the military career of Bern Anderson. The majority of the materials in this collection are from the career series and the correspondence series. These materials reflect many angles of his active United States Naval duty including: his personal letters during active duty, his materials regarding Operation Hollandia, his published and unpublished writings, diaries, citations, photographs, and newspaper clippings.

These papers span the years 1937-1962 and in large part they focus on Bernard M. Baruch Jr.'s service in the Naval Reserve from 1937. The collection is divided into 5 series. Of special interest to researchers are the programs he developed and the publications he wrote on naval intelligence and enemy sightings. Other topics of interest include slides and photographs of World War II, Nazi surface ships and submarines, photographs and documents pertaining to Japanese Air Balloon Bombers, and his correspondence with Laurent H. L. Brackx who was accused of espionage. Series V includes some materials pertaining to Bernard M. Baruch Sr.

The Ingraham family first immigrated to the United States in the seventeenth century from Great Britain, with many settling in South Carolina where they became a seafaring family with strong connections to both the U.S. Navy and the Navy of the Confederate States. This collection includes ships’ logs and reminiscences maintained by members of the Ingraham family while on board serving in either the U.S. Navy of the Confederate Navy during the American Civil War.
